COUNCILLOR John Williams (Letters, September 14) criticises Jack Straw and estate ward councillors and accuses them of failing to tackle the problems of drug abuse and juvenile crime in just two years and calls for Jack Straw's resignation as Home Secretary.
I would remind Coun Williams that had it not been for the previous 18 years of Tory Government, we would not be in the mess that we currently find ourselves.
The problems of the previous 18 years cannot be rectified within 17 months, but we are making progress. Coun Williams should look to his own party to shoulder some responsibility for the problems experienced today.
COUN DOROTHY WALSH (Corporation Park Ward), Hereford Road, Blackburn.
