RESIDENTS who have already fought off plans for four takeaways in the Pike Hill area of Burnley are outraged at news of another similar planning application in their neighbourhood.
Plans have been submitted to convert the former greengrocers shop in Brownside Road into a hot food takeaway but spokesman for the residents, Barbara McNamara, of Brownside Road, said their message is still as loud and strong as ever.
She said: "This is a pleasant, residential community across all the ages, some of whom have lived here since they were born.
"A takeaway would detract from the community and be a service for outsiders, and all to the bad of the neighbourhood
Mrs Lewis lives in and owns the Post Office next door to the proposed takeaway.
"It has previously been acknowledged by the Department of the Environment that it is the wrong place, health and safety wise.
"It is already a nightmare corner for traffic and since the Spar shop opened it has been the site of an accident waiting to happen.
"Gangs of teenagers are hanging around at night and are already causing problems near the local library and health centre in Langwyth Road.
All comments about the application must be submitted by September 29.
