A HOME improvements charity group is set to launch free courses for do-it-yourself enthusiasts.
Hyndburn Homewise will kick off its essential maintenance classes in Accrington on Thursday, September 30.
Snooker star Shokat Ali will be on hand to launch the Homewise Essential Maintenance Skills practical advice course.
Qualified plumber Shaun Green will lead the classes, which have been organised in conjunction with Oldham College.
Homewise recently won a £122,000 lottery grant to help fund the courses, which are open to residents of all ages in the borough.
Sean said: "We are going to teach fire, accident and crime prevention techniques, first aid, basic joinery, glazing and plumbing skills and carpet fitting." The classes will be held at community centres and anyone wanting to join in can pick up a form at council offices.
They will initially be run on a trial basis and assessed before Homewise is allowed to set up courses across the borough.
Councillors recently backed the charity's plan to convert a terrace house in Pendle Street, Accrington, to build the course's head office.
Council leader Peter Britcliffe, said: "Hyndburn Homewise is an excellent organisation which does some wonderful work around the borough and this is to be welcomed."
Anyone who wants to take up a place on a course can call Shaun Green 01254 230974.
