A MAN was taken to hospital with head injuries after being attacked outside a Blackburn infants school.
The man, who has not been named by police, was taken to Blackburn Infirmary following the incident outside Cedars Infants School, in Hawthorn Street, at 3.30pm yesterday.
A parent who was picking her child up from school at the time said the man was set upon by four men wielding baseball bats and iron bars.
"All the kids could see what was happening and they were really upset. Everyone was crying as this man was on the floor being beaten with bats and bars. Then the police and an ambulance came and he was taken away."
The witness said she thought the man had arrived with his wife to pick up his children but police today said the incident had nothing to do with the school.
Inspector Pete Zsigmund, of Blackburn Police, said one man had been arrested and interviewed and was in custody today. Witnesses are asked to contact PC Tim Maddox on 01254 51212.
