BACUP Borough are still in shock following the tragic death of midfielder Jason Ross.

But last night's match against Daisy Hill still went ahead and Borough paid their former player the perfect tribute with a comprehensive victory.

In a poigniant moment before the match, both sides stood round the centre circle for a minute's silence.

Then the men from West View set about their task with a steely resolve in a bid to put the traumas of the last few days behind them.

Borough were far superior in the first period and missed three golden chances to open their account inside the first 20 minutes.

But they finally made the breakthrough after 26 minutes when Mark Rawstron fired home from the edge of the box.

The home side threatened to run riot at times and Nicky Taylor added the second four minutes later with a low drive.

Daisy Hill came back into it after the break and put the Borough defence under the cosh for a spell.

But Bacup's rearguard soaked up the pressure and, after Stuart Farnell was introduced as a substitute midway through the half, they regained the upper hand.

Farnell netted the third on 78 minutes when he wrong-footed the visitors defence before tucking away a neat finish past a stranded keeper.

And that seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors as they played out the final 12 minutes with little more than a whimper.
