CHARITY group Age Concern is hoping to keep older people warm in winter after launching a new scheme with Powergen. The Midlands-based company has set up the Dual Fuel scheme, offering cut-price gas and electricity for the cold months ahead to people over 60.
Rebates will be offered to anyone in the scheme who has their heating on when the temperature drops below zero. The initiative includes a safety plan, with customers given a carbon monoxide detector and thermometer.
Sally Sutton, of Age Concern, Hyndburn, said: "During winter, a lot of older people have to make a choice between leaving their fire on and eating, because of the cost of heating. The Dual Fuel scheme offers a good rate for gas and electricity.
"We can't promise it is the lowest around because there is a lot of competition. But we have already had a lot of interest and anyone who wants more information can call me on 01254 871010."
