AN article (Lancashire Evening Telegraph, September 2) inaccurately stated that Blackburn with Darwen Conservative councillor Edna Arnold had resigned her positions on the council and the Racial Equality Council, in the wake of the controversy regarding Councillor Mohammed Khan's application for a paid position with the REC.
Coun Arnold has asked us to make it clear that she has not resigned from the council, on which she has served for the last 27 years, nor from the REC. Coun Arnold has said: "I am quite satisfied that I acted properly in my role with the REC in this matter.
"I have done nothing wrong and have no intention of resigning."
The Council for Racial Equality is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the appointment of Coun Khan, to which Coun Arnold will give evidence and by which she says she expects to be fully exonerated of any misconduct.
We apologise once again to Coun Arnold for any distress or embarrassment these inaccuracies may have caused her and we are happy to set the record straight.
