LEIGH churches working together have raised £1,928 to help the Leprosy Mission.
The 22 churches' various money spinning efforts over the year culminated in the annual coffee evening in the Sacred Heart Parish Centre last week.
Mrs Marjorie Price, of Bedford Methodist Church, opened the evening, and fellow parishioner, Joyce Wood, read the gospel account of the 10 lepers.
The Rev Brian Hankins, NW organiser for the Leprosy Mission, spoke on his work, and his counterpart for the south west gave a brief resume of his visits to a project in Nigeria which needs £100,000 for cures and aftercare.
The congregation heard that the money spent in the UK to fill a car tank with fuel can cure one adult and one child.
Mrs Mary Barratt, of Leigh Unitarian Church, gave a vote of thanks.
