Yesterday I drove towards the junction of Woodhill Road and Brandlesholme Road, Bury, being on Woodhill Road myself. I noticed two teenage schoolboys giving close attention to a hedge near the top of the road.
Suddenly one of them reached into the hedge, pulled out a third boy, and threw him across the pavement and into the road. Fortunately the car coming towards us was travelling slowly, and stopped about four feet from the boy on the road.
Its driver decided not to pursue the matter, though I had also stopped, ready to be a witness or give assistance.
Tony Blair is very keen on moral crusades to combat falling standards, and rising delinquency, but has he remembered that there is a standard which has only changed once in the 3,700 years since it was written down? When Jesus Christ clarified the Ten Commandments of the Old Testament, it was done clearly and unmistakably: "Matthew 22:37-39: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
If it is standards people are looking for, then they should find a church which is not afraid to open its Bible and teach those
standards. Men may change, but God never does.
