JUST what is going on with Charter Marks and Beacon status for various organisations and agencies?
Is it not strange that Government agencies are spending time, money and resources to vie for these awards - presented by the very same Government.
The powers that be should not be blitzing us with PR about how good its services are - they should let us make our minds up on our own and see figures to prove how consistent they are.
Our new government has gone bureaucracy-mad. Why isn't the money used to get one of these awards used to make services even better than the standard of the actual award?
You can't blame people from the hospitals and council for applying for them - because of the fact they exist, they are forced into trying to get them for fear of missing out and falling behind rivals.
Maybe the competition for the awards is meant to improve our services quicker than before - but I say it gives people more of a reason to massage figures and sweep aside any problems.
