CLASSMATES from St John's School, Blackpool, buried their heads in the books recently - rows and rows of them.
The pupils discovered there's much more to running a library than simply handing out books after spending two days working alongside staff as part of Blackpool Council's Local Democracy Week celebrations last week.
Council leader Ivan Taylor said the Town Hall was keen to help youngsters to understand how council services touch all aspects of everyday life.
He said: "It's easy to take services for granted without ever stopping to think who provides them and why.
"Spending time at the Town Hall and with other council staff is giving lots of children a real insight into the roles we play and a much greater understanding of the work we do."
