Haydock 22 Parkside Golborne 10
HAYDOCK had this game won inside the first 20 minutes, but made heavy weather of it the remainder of the match.
They took the lead after four minutes with a penalty goal from Haughey and five minutes later the same player started the move which led to the first try when when he kicked
over the Parkside defence from 40 yards out. Bloor collected and passed to Scott who transferred the ball inside to Anders who went 20 yards to score. Haughey converted.
Haydock blasted back with a second try to Anders after good passing along the line by Haydock.
Minutes later big Chris Pearson shrugged off two would-be tacklers to score near the posts, Haughey converted.
Anybody who thought that Haydock might run away with the game were sadly mistaken, as they went off the boil. The only score for the remainder of the half was a drop goal by Haughey to make the half time score 19-0.
In the second half Parkside had 75 per cent of possession but the Haydock defence did well. But 20 minutes into the second half Parkside claimed a try and goal while substitute Dave Jones dropped a goal for Haydock to make it 20-6.
Parkside scored again with an unconverted try to make it 20-10 after 70 minutes but Haydock finished the scoring with a penalty goal from Anders at full time.
Outstanding for Haydock were Dolan, Reynolds and Bloor.
