West Park 57 Trafford Metrovick 11
AFTER a shaky opening to this first round NPI Cup tie Park sauntered to victory.
It started with an interception try from 60 metres out by Peter Osborne, Glen Fletcher converted and initiated a point a minute scoring spree to the interval. Phil Houlton's drive to the line set-up a try by Steve Bibby converted by Glen Fletcher and after Steven Briers had been forced in touch at the corner another Houlton break put skipper Sean Fletcher over the line. Glen Fletcher converted but was wide with the conversion of Peter Osborne's second try. Slick handling by the three-quarters put Rob Singleton away and his inside pass to Paul Bailey brought the first try of a hat-trick completed after the interval, Fletcher converted.
A penalty by MV centre Darren Hyde opened the visitors account on the resumption before Sean Fletcher scored direct from a line-out '22' metres out, Fletcher adding the goal. Dominic McCormack was the next provider, his break giving a second try to Bailey converted by Fletcher. Hyde's second penalty made it 47-6 for Park as the game entered its final quarter. Martin Strett having a fine game at full-back combined with Briers over 80 metres, Bailey applying the finishing touch. Steve Bibby and Rob Hanson combined to put replacement Liam McLoughlin in for Park's final try.
