WE were delighted to see that at long last some steps are being taken to develop the area on which the former Blackburn Convalescent Home, Clifton Drive North, now stands.
This has been an eyesore for too long.
But we were dismayed to see the artist's impression of what might take its place.
On this ideal prestigious position, a one-off you may say, we would have expected to see a far more imaginative layout.
The position lends itself to soul-lifting Spanish type architecture and the potential is there to create an eye-catching development, not the humdrum North England bricks and mortar stereotype building.
So we say to the architects: let your imagination run wild and give us something uplifting.
Seville Court, Ansdell, would be a good guide, but even that could be improved on with the space available at the Clifton Drive North site.
People should not have to go to Spain or elsewhere to see bright, cheerful buildings and surroundings.
Tenerife has bright, imaginative buildings on the sea front.
They also have bad weather, storms and heavy rainfall, so don't make bad weather an excuse for designing depressing buildings in this area.
