A PATHWAY in Blackpool is being used as a rubbish dump and angry residents are claiming it's a health hazard.
Refuse has been piling up in an alleyway off Warbeck Drive, North Shore after a wrangle between owners of nearby properties and Blackpool Council over who should clear it away.
The pathway is an unadopted area and residents have been told landlords must pay to have the rubbish removed.
Landlords have refused to pay, however, claiming other roads nearby are cleared of rubbish by the council without charge.
Paul Scandrett who lives in a nearby flat said: "The pathway is being used as a rubbish tip by passers-by and builders.
"And because no-one will clear it away it just keeps piling higher.
"I have been living here for two years and the problem is getting worse.
"Rats are coming into the area and if the mess is not cleared soon it will become a health hazard. A lot of young children live around here and like to play in the alleyways.
"There is a lot broken glass about and it could be very dangerous if they cut themselves and it's only a matter of time before one of them gets injured.
"People living here have been complaining about it for ages but nothing gets done. Everyone seems to be passing the buck."
Blackpool Council's cleansing department have told The Citizen they have now visited the site and will clear any rubbish away as soon as possible.
