TRAUMA, the support group for sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, wants to help more sufferers of traumatic stress - and let them know they are not alone.
Trauma was set up in December 1997 and many members first heard about it through a story in the Citizen - but its founders believe there are still many sufferers who could be helped but are unaware of its existence.
The group, founded by two ex servicemen who have both suffered from PTSD, is open to all sufferers of the disorder and their friends and relatives.
PTSD can be triggered by a wide range of situations including accidents, bereavement, war experiences and many others and Trauma says that even if the event was years ago, members can still benefit from help and advice.
The group meets regularly at the Signposts Resource Centre in Regent Road, Morecambe and offers both group and one to one counselling, as well as having links with several national charities which members can be referred to. Members are also given access to a 24 hour helpline for immediate support.
Potential members should write to Trauma at: Trauma, PO Box 28, Carnforth, Lancs, LA5 9GF and will receive an information pack, newsletter and a telephone number to contact Trauma directly.
