BURY-based law firm Butcher & Barlow now has all the notaries public permanently located at its Bank Street base.
This comes with the appointment of new partner Anthony Higham to that office.
He joins managing partner Charles Barlow and John Bodden who have both been notaries public for many years. There are only 900 notaries public in the country.
Their duties are to administer oaths, authenticate various legal transactions, signatures and contracts and ensure they are being carried out correctly.
The office and status are recognised internationally. Special experience and examinations are required in order for a solicitor to be appointed a notary.
The appointment of another notary is a particular advantage to the growing commercial side of Butcher & Barlow's work.
For any firm wishing to trade abroad will need to have the legal documents authorised by a notary public.
