A WOMAN suffered serious spinal injuries in a car crash in Church Lane, off Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors.
The 37-year-old Carol Towler, of Huncoat, was a front-seat passenger in the car which was in collision with a street lamp and parked cars at 9.30pm yesterday.
Inspector Steve Lee, of Blackburn police, said: "The driver appears to have spotted a police car and sped off in the opposite direction, then lost control of the vehicle."
Ms Towler was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with another female passenger who suffered minor injuries. A man was arrested and later released on police bail pending further inquiries.
