FAIRY Roundabout should be the name of the new mini-roundabout at the junction of Duchess Street and Fore Street in Lower Darwen, because the fairies there are keeping the traffic flowing faster than people realise.
Experienced drivers will remember long queues on Shadsworth Road to the junction with Haslingden Road, the horrific queues on Preston Old Road from Riley Green to the Feilden Arms at Feniscowles every work day morning and, a little further afield, the long queues in three directions in Whalley village.
But after the erection at these places of the 'little white dot,' the queues disappeared.
As a driver with 56 years experience, I think that this new junction at Lower Darwen, along with the new crossing, is the finest thing that could have happened to my village.
ARTHUR WILSON (Mr), Leacroft, Lower Darwen.
