TEACHERS and youth workers in Pendle are being urged to take part in a 'green' event to help them encourage youngsters to look after the environment.
Environmental group Community Action Network (CAN), through its education group, has organised the event.
Known as Literally Litter, the event aims to show teachers and youth workers how to encourage young people to recycle, compost, repair, re-use and reduce waste in Pendle. It will be held at the Silverman Hall, Nelson, on October 14 between 4pm and 6pm.
The initiative is aimed at people working with junior school age children.
CAN support worker Helen Blyth, said: "We need to encourage children early on in life to recycle and reduce our waste if we are to find an alternative to dumping waste in landfill sites.
"The afternoon will provide information on how to look after our planet to ensure that it is sustained for future generations."
Specialists from a number of organisations, including Tidy Britain Group, Pendle Council, Lancashire Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency will give advice and resource packs will be available.
Information will also be given on how the scheme fits in with the National Curriculum.
CAN is a network of voluntary, community and education groups working to promote and enhance the environment.
