TWO pupils at Blackburn's Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School made all the right moves when they represented Lancashire in a national chess championship at Staffordshire University.
Adam Dickinson, 16, of Clayton-le-Moors, and James Clark, 16, of Burnley, are both pupils in the lower sixth form at QUEGS and competed among the best young players in England at the National Inter-County Chess Championships.
School pal Darrell Newman, 16 and also from Burnley, was also selected to compete as part of Lancashire's under-19 team but was unable to attend.
The trio are all members of the school's thriving chess team.
Adam's mum Mrs Yvonne Dickinson, who teaches English at the school, said: "Chess is an excellent game to practise mental agility because you have to think and plan ahead at the same time as responding to your opponent's moves.
"Adam and James have been selected before to represent Lancashire and are confident that they will again perform well."
