RESIDENTS in Accrington have drawn up an action plan to improve their neighbourhood, including turning waste land into playing fields.
The Spring Hill Tenants and Residents Association (STARA), together with Hyndburn Council, has drawn up an improvement plan as part of a government regeneration initiative.
One of the planned improvements is turning a piece of waste land opposite TML, in Exchange Street, into football pitches.
The residents' association already helps the community by putting on outings for children and the elderly, fitting lighting to elderly people's homes and erecting fences.
The action plan aims to co-ordinate action and ensure that residents and the council work more closely to improve the area.
A plan of action has already been drawn up for Huncoat, and residents in Church are drawing up similar proposals.
