BUSINESSES in East Lancashire are urged to help raise cash for charity by collecting empty toner and inkjet cartridges.
The East Lancashire Deaf Society is trying to raise £3.5 million to renovate King's Court in King Street, Blackburn, to house a cafe, top-quality restaurant, conference centre, function rooms and other facilities including units for small business.
It will be the first development of its kind in the UK to be self-sufficient and entirely managed by a charity, with profits put back into the society's work.
Empty toner cartridges are worth around 50p to the charity which can sell them on to a processor.
"Millions of toner cartridges are thrown away each year and if we could get our hands on only one per cent of those we can raise £250,000," said Peter Johnson of the appeal.
Further details on the cartridge campaign are available from Sufia Adalat on 01254 52620.
