A COMMUNITY footpath scheme has been launched in memory of a 13-year-old girl who died in a road accident.
Ian and Joy McCarthy, of Cronkshawfold Farm, Helmshore, have launched the Alden Access Challenge in memory of their daughter Edith.
Edith suffered fatal head injuries when her parents' car left the road and ran down an embankment earlier this year.
Her parents and 10-year-old sister Dorothy were also injured in the accident near Middlesbrough. Now her parents have launched a scheme to establish a community route in the Alden area, where Edith was a keen walker, cyclist and horse rider.
They are looking for groups and individuals to help them chart a circular path that will accommodate all members of the community, including horseriders and cyclists.
"We hope the route will have historical, geographical and topographical interest, and will provide stopping and viewing points, picnic areas and possible venues," said Mr McCarthy.
The couple hope the route will include paths, lanes, parks, green spaces and bridleways.
They want anyone with ideas for the scheme to send them with contact details to Cronkshaw Fold Farm and Study Centre, Alden Road, Helmshore, Rossendale, Lancashire, BB4 4AQ, or telephone 01706 218614, by October 19.
