BURNLEY reserves threw away the opportunity to collect three points at Turf Moor last night.
The Clarets had a side with plenty of first team experience and they created a host of chances. But twice after going in front they let Port Vale back into the game.
The first half was goalless though Alan Lee went close, Andy Cooke hit the bar and John Mullin had a fine chance after breaking through the defence. On the hour mark the Clarets pressure finally paid off when Paul Weller scored direct from a free-kick.
But within 30 seconds Port Vale had levelled as the Burnley defence paid the price for a lapse of concentration.
Republic of Ireland under-21 striker Lee scored Burnley's second on 73 minutes with a smart shot on the turn. But within minutes the visitors were back on terms this time from the spot after a Chris Brass foul in the area.
