A LANCASHIRE schoolboy will be speeding into the record books by taking part in the first-ever circuit races for drivers under 16.

Tim Boardman, from Forton, will be one of eight youngsters, aged 14 and 15, taking to the track at Castle Combe this Saturday.

The talented group are already the youngest racing licence holders in the country, thanks to the British Racing and Sports Car Club's T-Cars initiative.

Saturday's first rounds of the T-Cars Racing Series will involve the young racers taking to the track in identical T-Car saloons - ultra-safe purpose built training cars capable of speeds up to 100mph.

Each of the teenagers has undergone a rigorous training programme, devised by the Association of Racing Drivers Schools (ARDS) in conjunction with UK racing's governing body, the RAC Motor Sports Association (MSA).

T-Cars project manager Magnus Laird said: "All eight have impressed their instructors with their car control and willingness to learn the right way to go racing."
