MINDLESS thugs have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars in Deepdale and Fulwood during the past week.

Police are warning motorists to be on their guard following the spate of vandalism and thefts in the area.

Incidents include:

A white H-registered Citroen BX was stolen from a car park in Ribbleton Lane on Monday, September 28.

Three tyres were slashed on a Nissan Micra parked in Dymock Road, on the night of Sunday, September 26.

The sunroof of a Vauxhall Astra, parked Library Street, was smashed on the same night, causing £200 damage.

A Mitsubishi parked in Delaware Street was kicked twice and a rear light cluster was stolen around midnight on Monday, September 27.

Thieves smashed the quarter-lights of a Vauxhall Astra parked in Rigby Street, after they failed to force a window, the same night.

A police spokesman said: "These vandals are doing this just for the hell of it.

"It's no more than wanton damage, a swift kick as they pass a car. The problem is that it is difficult to hear car windows when they are smashed because they are made of a different glass to house windows.

"And tyres make no noise when they are slashed.

"There's no real way to protect your car from these attacks, unless you can park it in a garage, so we are asking people to be vigilant."
