RED-faced Liberal Democrats in Riversway have been told to start campaigning for something their area actually needs - after they launched a crusade for a bus stop.
And while their intentions may have been good, Lib Dem campaigner Alan Valentine - who was recently accused of pretending to be a councillor - forgot one thing when he petitioned for the new shelter ... there already is one!
In the latest edition of the Lib Dem's Focus newsletter, local activists say they have been told there is no chance a bus shelter can be placed outside Judd House, in South Meadow Lane.
And the party vowed to carry on campaigning - despite the fact the bus shelter had already been erected.
Now a bizarre political war has erupted between the Labour and Lib Dem councillors in the area - who both claim it is as a result of their own campaigns.
Local councillor Renee Black said: "The shelter is now being well used by locals.
"This incident proves that if you want something doing, you need to come to Labour.
"My colleagues and I are always happy to get improvements - such as this bus shelter - for the people of Riversway."
Alan Valentine, who has been accused of causing confusion in the area by signing his Focus news sheet with the title 'Riversway representative,' was unavailable to comment.
But Lib Dem leader Bill Chadwick said it was Alan's campaigning which ensured the shelter went up.
He said: "I can't believe a political issue is being made out this. Alan is an ardent campaigner, and only wants the best for the area.
"The arrival of this bus shelter must be partly down to him and his hard work. He has achieved a lot for the area.
"To criticise someone for promising to campaign on an issue shows what little importance they place on real politics."
