NOW third from the bottom after their 2-1 defeat on Saturday (Sept 25) by Wycombe Wanderers, the Seasiders are reeling from their dismal start to the season - but manager Nigel Worthington insists he is not worried.

Worthington remains upbeat after capturing goalkeeper Adam Rachel in a free move from Premiership giants Aston Villa.

The 22-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Seasiders and will go straight into the squad for Saturday's daunting trip to top-of-the-table Bristol Rovers.

But Rachel's arrival spells the departure of 25-year-old Tony Caig, who has been told he can leave if another club tables a bid around £200,000.

Despite good spells in their nine games the Seasiders have lacked the killer instinct to finish teams off, a suicidal combination when mixed with a defence that has leaked the third highest amount of goals in the league - 17.

And with the two clubs below, Colchester and Oldham, both having a game in hand, the Seasiders could find themselves staring up from the bottom of the pile.

But Worthington insisted Rachel will bolster the defence. "I was impressed by Adam's attitude when he trained with us a couple of times.

"His enthusiasm and desire to play first team football is excellent - he'll be a valuable asset.

"He's been with Aston Villa since he was quite young, trained with some superb players and was often behind Mark Bosnich on the bench.

"If the right offer comes in for Tony Caig I'll know I've still got two excellent goalies with the club.

"But the million dollar question is whether Adam will play on Saturday ... you'll just have to wait and see."
