Bold Miners 18 Hindley 16
THIS was a hard-earned success for Miners who had to battle back from a 16-6 half-time deficit.
Bold opened the scoring with a well-worked try by Gary Talbot, supplemented by an Ian Marsh penalty.
But Hindley dominated the remainder of the first half, forging ahead with three tries and two conversions.
Miners tightened up their tackling after the break and strong running by Brian Connaire, Chris Burgess, Gareth Hill and Ian Marsh began to punch holes in the Hndley defence.
Burgess made the breakthrough, crashing over for a fine try, goaled by Marsh. Then Lee Bolton rounded off a good passing movement to tie the scores at 16-16.
Bold were on top throughout the final quarter and were rewarded when Marsh landed a long-range penalty to grab the spoils.
Nick Joseph took the Grundy Excavations man-of-the-match, ahead of Hill and Marsh. Match ball sponsors were QED Scaffolding & Online Site Promotions Ltd.
