THIS was an important game for LSA against opponents who were relegated from the Premier Division last season in the Northern League. LSA made their intentions clear within the first minutes following a number of penalty corners. Chris Kay hit a powerful shot from one of these and opened the scoring. Chris Simcock, the LSA captain, had to retire with a pulled hamstring but the team responded well to go in at half-time 4-0 up. They continued in the same vein with the other goals scored by Dave Robbins (3), David Hans and Tom Atkinson (2).

DESPITE virtually dominating the game throughout, LSA only managed to convert one penalty corner out of 24 awarded. That goal was scored by John Pearson.

MOSSLEY HILL 3RD XI 3

LSA found themselves up against a very strong and experienced side who were very quickly two goals up. They went further ahead just before half-time. The second half was a different story with LSA more determined but no further goals were scored. Young David Waby won the man of the match award. LYTHAM LADIES 1ST XI 5

LEYLAND MOTORS 2ND XI 1

WITHIN the first ten minutes Lytham took the lead. An excellent one-two more between Karen Lowe and Ann Preston led to Lowe scoring. After moments of controversy at the Lytham and Motors equalised just before half-time.

Lytham came out hard after and were quietly back in the lead. A fantastic through ball from Heidi Whitehead found Preston in the circle to finish in style, giving the keeper no chance. The next goal came from the penalty spot after a desperate attempt from the opposing defence to keep Lytham at bay. Alexia Pellowe converted well.

Although tiring, Lytham continued to play excellently with a strong defensive performance supporting the skill up front. Ann Preston score two excellent goals in the closing moments of the game to achieve a superb performance of skill and motification.

SCHOLARS 0

PLAYING in the Second Division of the Lancs Central League, this was a superb start to the season. Lytham, dominated the whole match with Sue Wood and Natalie Glover in defence combining well with new players and creating an unpenetrable wall. Goals were scored by Louise Herring (2), Lisa Griffin (2), Jenny Long and Clare Hall.
