Pilkington Recs 26 West Sutton Dragons 20
RECS survived a second-half fightback by the Dragons to claim the points in this keenly-contested local derby.
The home side raced into 16-point lead after half-an-hour with tries by centre Andy Traverse, from good work by stand-off Andy Kilmurray; winger Jason Ledger, courtesy of senior packmen Ian Connolly and Andy Crehan; and Neil Brookes, who rounded off a blindside scrum move by Johhny Smith and Mike Dennett. Craig Burrows added two goals.
But West Sutton hit back before the break with a try by winger Rogers and a penalty by centre Stubbs.
Recs again struck first after the interval when Traverse scored the try of the game after a curving 55-yard run, followed by an opportunist effort by hooker Burrows who also converted to make it 26-6.
West Sutton dominated the final quarter though and they hit back when hooker Ward and stand-off Jones grabbed tries, the latter converted by Stubbs, to reduce the margin to just 10 points.
The homesters managed to hold out however and a last-minute try by winger Horton was too little, too late for the visitors.
Andy Traverse took the Specialist Fireplace Supplies man-of-the-match for Recs, ahead of Burrows, Connolly and Brookes, while West Sutton were best served by Jones, Ward and McNamara.
