MORECAMBE will have to take their chances better than this if they want to win at home to Woking this Saturday.
They had more than enough chances to win this in the first half but spurned them.
The Shrimps recaptured their early season form to cut through the Kettering defence at will for stretches of this game. And when Niell Hardy took the lead on 27 minutes no-one but the most ardent of Kettering fans could have had any doubt that Morecambe would go on to win this match.
Hardy was on as substitute for the injured close season signing Phil Eastwood. Justin Jackson - who missed a hat full on Saturday - played a large part in creating the goal. Kenny Takano (pictured) played a clever ball into space behind the Kettering back four. Jackson brought it under control and unselfishly laid it off for Hardy to score a relatively simple chance from just inside the area.
There followed chance after chance but, finally, well into the second half and with the home crowd beginning to get on their backs, they started to create a chance or two themselves.
They scored with quarter of an hour remaining Colin Vowden headed home a well taken free kick from Phil Brown.
After that the Morecambe defenders finally found themselves with some work to do. In fact Kettering could easily have clinched a thoroughly undeserved winner.
If Morecambe create the same number of chances on Saturday and at home to Southport on Tuesday they should have six points by next week.
Team: Banks, Fensome, Wright, Farrell, McKearney, Burns (Knowles 79), Gardner, Drummond, Jackson, Hardy (Keeling 71), Takano (Hardiker). Kettering 1 Morecambe 1
