Haydock 44 Widnes St Maries 6

HAYDOCK controlled this game from start to finish and could have won by a bigger margin after scoring nine tries and just four goals.

They struck within three minutes when Wayne Bloor stunned the Maries defence to score a good try and four minutes later hooker Cahlin raced over from acting half-back to make it 8-0.

An Anders penalty took them into double figures and although Maries enjoyed a brief spell of pressure it wasn't long before Haydock regained control when Pearson made a strong run and managed to get the ball to Abbott who scored wide out to make it 14-0.

Scrum-half Boland created Haydock's next try with a great pass for Bloor to scoot over and just before half time Wade went through after good passing, rounding the full-back to make it 22-0 at half-time.

Haydock scored again three minutes after the re-start when Dolan got the ball 60 yards out, sold a great dummy and went all the way to score. Ireland converted to make it 28-0.

Wade then got his second try before Maries managed their only score of the afternoon with a converted touchdown.

But Haydock came back and hooker Cahlin got his second try when a good passing movement saw him go 25 yards to score. Boland converted to make it 38-6.

And the homesters completed the scoring with winger Mellor's first try for the first team, racing 35 yards from acting half back to score in the corner. Boland kicked a good touchline goal to make it 44-6.

Outstanding for Haydock were Boland, Bloor, Carroll, Kelsey and Dolan.
