Bamber Bridge 1 Lancaster City 2 LANCASTER City continued their winning ways on Tuesday night with a powerhouse display away at Bamber Bridge.

Despite falling behind after just four minutes the super Blues tore into Bamber and despite heavy rain forced their way to victory in this Unibond League Cup tie.

The game had hardly started when Steve Aspinall converted a spot kick to put Bamber in front. After that it was end to end stuff with Chris Ward twice coming close for City and Bamber's Andy Whittaker shaving the bar with a header.

It wasn't until four minutes into the second half that City got the equaliser they deserved. A good cross from Paul Sparrow found an unmarked Neil Morton and he placed his header superbly.

The goal fuelled City fire and they took the game to Bamber with impressive attacking play.

Jimmy Graham let loose with a powerful volley that was narrowly wide but when a Bamber defender was caught with the ball just outside the area, Kennedy stole possession and set up young Chris Ward for a cool 15 yard shot.

Ward could have bagged a couple more in the dying stages of the match but in the end it was keeper Thornley who needed to be on his toes when he dived to save a wicked free kick from Ian Vickers.

City: Thornley, Kilbane, Graham, Udall, Horner, Mayers, Sparrow, Haddow, Morton (Crompton) Ward, Kennedy.
