THE council is to plant a tree for every baby born in the year 2000 as part of the millennium celebrations.
Trees will be planted in parks, open spaces and other locations throughout the district with each child receiving a special certificate.
There are expected to be 1,500 births next year and parents will be offered the chance to buy a commemorative plaque.
The tree planting has been made possible by the Million for the Millennium scheme and the council has set aside £60,000 for tree planting over the next three years.
