STOKE City's Gary Megson was named as the Second Division manager of the month for September.
Megson has lifted Stoke into the top six and pipped Bristol Rovers boss Ian Holloway to the award, while Clarets chief Stan Ternent was probably just one more win away from landing the crown himself.
MARTIN Smith, who arrived just too late at Turf Moor in the summer to land a permanent contract, has been rewarded with a long-term deal at Sheffield United after an impressive start to the season.
The former Sunderland forward, who played a couple of pre-season games for Burnley and was offered an initial short-term contract by manager Stan Ternent, is the Blades' top-scorer with eight goals.
Smith added two more to his tally for Adrian Heath's side in their win over Wolves last weekend.
