PAUL Evans lived up to his billing as the scorer of spectacular goals to end Burnley's perfect home record.

The Brentford midfielder followed up his 60-yarder against Preston with another long-range chip to complete the Bees' fightback and snatch a 2-2 draw.

Television and newspapers besieged the Brentford training ground during last week to see if Evans could repeat the wonder-goal he scored against the Clarets' Lancashire rivals.

And although he managed it only once in 10 efforts for the London Evening Standard - hitting the woodwork three times, he was quick to add - he almost matched it with the quality of his equaliser at Turf Moor.

"Honestly I didn't think I could do it again but the chance came again, I tried it and luckily for me it went in," said Evans, who was aided by an accidental pass from the referee.

"I think a couple of their players stopped. I looked up, saw the keeper was off his line and I thought 'Just go for it'," he added.

And chairman-manager Ron Noades was equally pleased to see the ball hit the back of the net as last season's Third Division champions wiped out first-half goals from Andy Payton and Paul Cook.

"It wasn't a fluke and he's proved it. He's done it again, although not from quite so far out.

"I'm frightened to play him up front because everything goes over the bar," said Noades, whose side rescued their unbeaten League run which has now stretched to 25 games.

"I thought if we were going to come unstuck on this unbeaten run and if you were a betting man you would say it would be this game," he added.
