A DEVELOPMENT plan for Haslingden Tor View Special School has been adopted after a year of consultation with parents.
At the school's presentation evening last year, head teacher Andy Squire said parents would be asked for their views for the Plan for School Improvement. This year he was able to tell parents the plan had been published.
He said: "This plan is our promise never to be complacent with the matter of your child's education."
Mr Squire said the national literacy strategy had now been fully implemented and thanks to the work of English co-ordinators, pupils are developing reading, writing and communication skills including speaking, listening,, signing, gesture and use of communication aids.
The school is in the process of implementing the numeracy strategy.
One pupil, Craig Thompson, was successful in GCSE maths and science and the school's further education department has continued to expand with 20 students supported by three new members of staff.
The school has spent £15,000 on computers and communication aids and now it has full financial control of its building. Lancashire County Council has given permission for a new library and therapy space, and Government approval is set to follow. Mr Squire said: "We are negotiating for additional school nurse input which is crucial not only to meeting the complex needs of some of our children but also realising our vision for a truly health school in which our pupils and students continue to thrive.
"Further links with mainstream schools giving opportunities for our pupils alongside their peers are a priority and already exceed past achievements."
