IAN Milne, an economist at Global Britain and a eurosceptic, has analysed the pattern of British trade.
The USA is Britain's largest export market by far, worth more than Germany and France put together.
In 1998, Britain exported more than £61 billion-worth of goods and services to the US, £34 billion to Germany and nearly £27 billion to France.
Britain has handed over £56 billion in real terms, in net contributions to the European Union.
This is the equivalent of this year's health and education budgets combined and is about £1,000 for every man, woman and child. Mr Milne asks: What is the EU doing for us? My opinion? We're being fleeced!
