A MAN wearing a Blackburn Rovers shirt needed seven stitches to a head wound when he was attacked outside the cricket field stand after Burnley's home game on Saturday.
Football bosses are today scouring security camera tapes to try to identify who attacked the man at 5.05pm.
They have been told the injured man had been among Brentford fans in the cricket field stand for the game, wearing a coat.
After the game the man was attacked outside the ground and suffered a head injury.
Grounds safety director Clive Holt appealed for anyone who witnessed the assault to come forward.
He said: "We have a zero tolerance initiative at Burnley and anyone who is convicted of a football-related offence either within the ground or to and from a football match will be banned for life.
"I understand the victim in this case has not made a formal complaint and so I will be surprised if any legal case takes place.
"I have been told some fans were remonstrating with the man outside the ground after the game and one of them pushed him and hit him.
"If we can identify who that person is we will have to consider what course of action to take."
Anyone who witnessed the attack can contact Mr Holt via the club on 01282 700000. The police are aware of the incident.
