BURNLEY YOUTH 1 A GOAL 10 minutes from time from Paul Barrett earned Burnley a Turf Moor replay in the first round of the FA Youth Cup.
The Clarets were below par before the break and it took a goalline clearance from Dave Savage to keep the Stags at bay.
But, after falling behind mid-way through the second half, Burnley deserved their second bite at the cherry thanks to Barrett's strike.
The youngster, who attends the club's centre of excellence, hooked the ball in from 12 yards in opportunist fashion.
And the visitors, for whom Earl Davis, Chris Clark and Tony Bowden produced solid performances, thought they had a strong case for a penalty and possible winner five minutes from time when Anthony Shandran went down in the box.
Nevertheless, coach Terry Pashley was pleased with the efforts of his side which included four 15-year-olds.
"When you've got those players in you don't really know what to expect but they came out of it with great credit.
"And the olders lads also did well. I was very pleased with the way they stuck at it and they did well to get a replay," he said.
Burnley: Paxton, Pilkington, Fogarty, Savage, Davis, Leary, Barrett, Bowden, Shandran (Licastry 86), Clarke, Waine. Subs not used: Eaves, Barker, Davis.
