PLANS to build a new supermarket in Great Harwood were due to be decided by Hyndburn councillors at a special meeting today.
A Co-op store similar to the one recently built in Ramsbottom is planned for Queen Street, currently the site of Great Harwood Library, a county council-run day nursery and industrial units at Plough Yard.
Developer Dransfield Properties has drawn up plans for a site which was initially intended for Safeway.
The scheme was reduced and then restored before Safeway pulled out and was replaced by United Norwest Co-op.
The Co-op has announced it will close its Late Shop in Glebe Street if it is granted permission to build the 18,000sq ft supermarket.
Hyndburn Council development services committee was due to meet in the Central Methodist Church Hall, King Street, at 2pm.
The meeting was also due to discuss plans to build a replacement public library in Edward Street in the town.
