ALMOST one in five firms in the North West are still not ready for the effects of the millennium bug, according to figures.
And many have not got contingency plans if things do go wrong. More than a third of small and medium sized businesses in the North West said they thought such precautions were not necessary against the bug which could affect computers and other electronic equipment. "These figures are extremely disappointing as sensible and prudent contingency plans should be the crux of any business's millennium preparations,." said Don Cruickshank, of Action 2000.
Action 2000 has recently mailed a "Last Chance Guide" to all 1.3 million small businesses in the country.
"There is a substantial amount of information dedicated to contingency planning within this booklet and all companies should take on board the importance of getting these sort of plans in place."
