VISITORS to Hapton are being encouraged to "ride and stride".
Hapton Parish Council has marked out a four-mile route from the village's railway station. It takes in some of the best parts of surrounding countryside - and some local pubs!
Jo Garrigan, clerk to the parish council, said they were hoping for funds to pay for a leaflet explaining the walk and the history of the village.
The council has entered the project for the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's Grimewatch competition.
It has also submitted a second project, not yet completed - the painting of murals depicting the history of the village on derelict factory walls in Simpson Street.
Grimewatch rewards all kinds of environmental projects and there are categories for schools, community groups, local authorities, businesses and individuals.
The closing date for entries is December 10. For full details of how to enter, ring the Grimewatch line on 01254 678678 ext 244.
