TYLDESLEY RU scored a thrilling 17-10 win at Ambleside in the windswept Lake District.
From the start they controlled the lineouts with both Craig Pulman and Lee West taking solid possession.
Good play by the backs set up a lineout for West to win and drive the pack onwards for Darren Edge to score.
The Cumbrians replied with a penalty, but astute kicking by Dave Sivill set up good field position for Pulman and then prop Howard Hughes to drive in; several swift passing movements sent Fraser MacIntosh racing in for the second try.
With Ambleside erager to get something back, a wild pass was thrown out and intercepted by Andy Dickinson who went 70 metres to score under the posts, Sivill adding the conversion for 17-3.
Ambleside grabbed a try back before the break and they pushed everything into attack in the second half. But a massive show in defence, particularly by Rob Harrop and Craig Pulman, snuffed out any threats of a comeback.
If they handed out prizes for guts and determination, Tyldesley would no doubt head the queue.
Trafford, who visit Well Street on Saturday, will not look forward to meeting such a determined side.
Tyldesley 2nds won 8-3 against Rossendale 8-3 while the 3rds were run ragged by Atherton.
