IT'S hardly recognisable now. But at one time, the Sutton 'waterfall' occupied an idyllic setting where children picnicked and enjoyed sliding down the adjacent slopes.
Miss Edith Carter, from Mill Lane, Sutton Leach, in her eighties but still as bright as a button, remembers it well.
She's forwarded me a 1930s sepia-toned postcard showing that once lovely spot.
Sadly, the picture is now too faded to reproduce, but it is possible to make out the elegant trees, neat grassy banks and trimmed hedgerows of the Mill Dam location, together with its man-made waterfall.
"It is all overgrown now," sighs Edith, "but there is still a path from the bottom of Mill Lane and along to the waterfall bridge."
And for the interested few who make that little trek, the dam and waterfall can still be found to be flowing after all these years.
ANYONE else got a memory of their favourite childhood haunt? If so, please drop me a line at the Star.
