THE media circus flocked to Preston town centre this week for the opening of the trial of Dr Harold Shipman - the family GP charged with the murder of 15 of his patients and one charge of forgery.
Dr Shipman was in Preston Crown Court, on Tuesday, October 5, to hear the trial judge Mr Justice Forbes adjourn the hearing to consider legal submissions.
Dr Shipman's wife Primrose, his daughter and two sons David, 20, and Sam, 17, were in court for the 20-minute hearing, before proceedings were adjourned.
A jury is unlikely to be sworn in until next week and the case is expected to last for three months.
The 53-year old doctor, from Mottram, Tameside, denies all the murder charges relating to women aged between 49 and 81.
