'Chesham Comets' BURY Cycle Speedway club, originally known as Chesham Comets, are 25 years old this month and are planning a race meeting and a grand celebration and reunion on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, October 30.

The club are anxious to contact many former riders, many of whom lost touch years ago. Several former "comets" have already promised to attend, including probably the best-ever Bury-produced rider, Martin Zuk, who lives in America. Martin reports that he has already booked his flight!

Racing will start at noon at the magnificent home of the "New Comets" at Goshen Sports Centre - where the club have been based for six years after spending their first 19 years at Clarence Park - with the Chairman's Cup, an intermediate standard event for current riders.

The second part will comprise a semi-fun event, the Anniversary Fours involving past and present. Teams will represent the different eras of the club's history - that is the Comets, the Turners, the Hamers and the current sponsors, Border Flooring - as well as a team from former partner club Sowerby Bridge.

The evening function is at the Waterloo pub on Manchester Road, where there will be a small admission charge. Further information from me or my son Paul, the team manager, on 0161-705-2378.

TONY MANN,

secretary and founder.
