A TEENAGER found hanged from a tree in Leyland is believed to have died the night before he was discovered.

Terrence Collins, 15, was spotted by an early morning dog walker in parkland off Western Drive, Leyland, last Thursday.

Officers are now treating his death as suspicious.

Police immediately cordoned off the area and removed Terrence's body.

Terrence, of Larchwood Crescent, Leyland, was a pupil at Worden High School, and was described by teachers as a popular lad.

His family are said to be devastated by the news of Terrence's death.

David Tilston, head of Worden High School, said: "We are incredibly sorry to hear of Terry's death.

"He was a likeable lad, who was also popular with both his peers and his teachers."

Terrence was described as a keen footballer by parents of his friends and class mates. He played for both his form and year at Worden High.

Parents say their children are saddened by his death, saying Terrence was popular with virtually everyone, but had been quieter than usual in the weeks preceding his death.

Mr Tilston added: "He was a pleasant member of his class and would take part in discussions and was always prepared to put forward his opinions in a forthright, healthy fashion.

"He played a full part in school life and his absence will be keenly felt by many."

Locals living near to the park say it was a tragedy waiting to happen.

One said: "You wouldn't believe some of the things they get up on that site. It isn't safe to come here at night, which is a shame."

Details of Terrence's funeral have yet to be announced.
